Florida Box Turtles are omnivores. When young they eat a primarily carnivorous diet but as they age they begin to include plants. Florida Box Turtles are native to Florida - they are no longer thought to occur in Georgia. Wild Florida Box Turtles are protected by law. They inhabit moist areas in forests and sandy open fields near fresh bodies of water. They spend the majority of their time on land, but do seem to enjoy soaking in shallow water. They have a hinged plastron which allows them to tuck their head and limbs inside their shell.
