MAUMEE BAY MAY 30 - JUNE 2
Lake Erie - we had very good weather for the trip - no rain.
The area supports a population of melanistic (all black) Eastern Garter Snakes.
Yellow Flag Iris - this can be seen in abundance in many "marshy" areas.
One of my favorite insects - an Eyed Click Beetle.
Brown Snake (aka DeKay's Snake), these are nowhere near as common as Garter Snakes in this part of Ohio.
A large female Bullfrog chillin' in a State Park.
Field Sparrow in a field (where it's supposed to be).
My first-ever encounter with a Butler's Garter Snake.
Butler's Garter Snake close-up - a few were found during the trip.
Widow Skimmer Dragonfly.
Northern Leopard Frogs were easy to come by, though difficult to catch.
A majestic-looking Great Egret.
It's always cool to come across an Eastern Fox Snake in the wild. In Ohio, they only reside in a few counties.
Eastern Fox Snake close-up.
Habitat shot of where we were finding cool creatures.
Song Sparrow with a "reedy" background.
It's egg-laying time for turtles. Here's a Midland Painted Turtle leaving the water to go dig a nest.
An Eastern Garter Snake lacking a yellow stripe down its back.
One of the more colorful birds in Ohio - an Indigo Bunting.
Hey, it's June and only appropriate that this June Bug be out and about.
A Northern Water Snake overlooking the marsh from the parking lot near where it was found.
