Hot Springs Hike
Montana
Montana Rosanna Danna
Las Vegas artist Montana Black learned a thing or two from lizards and decided to hang out in the rocks.
Kenny's Zebratail
Sidetracked
Although we never achieved the goal of this hike (to see some natural hot springs), we did manage to see and catch a heck of a lot of lizards.
Lizard Hand Hand Full O' Lizard
Zebratails can grow to over 9 inches in length.
Zebratail Desert Speedster
These are the fastest lizards in the west.
Landsacpe Rocky Road
Matt, Montana and I survey the scene.
Tarantula Hawk The Huge Bug of the Day
Tarantula hawks are a metallic blue with orange wings. They hunt and paralyze large spiders to serve a hosts for their larvae. Tarantula hawk stings are considered to be the most painful of any North American insect.

Chuckwalla Ken's Chuckwalla
Ken seems to be catching an awful lot of lizards on this trip. I wonder who taught him how to noose them?
Chuckwallal Crack Lizard
Chuckwallas (Sauromalus obesus) are the largest non-venomous lizards in the United States. Their primary defense is to go into rock crevices and inflate their bodies so they can not be extracted.
Odd Land Stonewalled
The trail to the hot springs had some spectacular rock formations.
Whiptail Whipsmart
I caught my first lizard of the day - a whiptail (Cnemidophorus tigris).
Whiptail Pointy Head
These lizards are related to South American tegus. As you might suspect, they are named for their long, slender tails.
Whiptail The White Stripes
The tigris part of this lizard's latin name refers to its striped pattern.
