CALIFORNIA COAST
One morning I decided to take a drive up the coast.
These ground beetles were seen in a variety of locations.
Broad-footed Mole.
Buckeye Butterfly.
Baby Fence Lizards.
A typical looking Coast Garter Snake.
A Coast with some extra red.
This small amount of vegetation provides enough cover for some creatures to use as habitat.
Fence Lizard with an ocean view.
Dragonflies getting acquainted.
Eventually I moved inland and decided to investigate this pond.
It has a nice population of Santa Cruz Garter Snakes. Here's one basking on dried cattails.
A young Coast Garter Snake that has yet to develop any red coloration.
The biggest Santa Cruz Garter Snake I've ever seen.
It's head reminded me of a Water Snake.
It sure was a nice day to be out herping.
And not a bad day for geocaching either..
